Alina Szapocznikow

b. 16 May 1926 in Kalisz (PL),  d. 2 March 1973 in Praz-Coutant (F); Polish sculptor and graphic artist

1946–1947Studied sculpture in Prague, initially in Otakar Velímský's studio, then at the Prague Design College
1947-1950Studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. She broke off her studies due to serious illness and returned to Poland

Szapocznikow's works were shown at documenta 12 in Kassel and are also on display in the collections at the MOMA in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Tate Gallery in London.
