Paul Schneider lives and works in Merzig-Bietzen.

1945Apprentice mason with journeyman's examination in Kassel; apprenticeship as a painter
1948-1951 Studied at the Staatliche Werkakademie Kassel
1952-1953 Studied at the Kunsthochschule Staedel Frankfurt (under Hans Mettel), focusing on naturalistic works in clay
since 1953Working as a freelance sculptor
1964-1967First mobile sculpture ("sculpture with a moving body")
1969First participation in a symposium for steel sculptures in Kosice, Slovakia
1971 SCo-founder of the Steine an der Grenze international sculpture symposium, Merzig e.V.tart of intensive work on stone sculpture: participation in the international sculpture symposium in St. Wendel
1972Easter gathering of the St. Margarethen sculptors in Târgu Jiu (Romania) at Brâncuși's Table of Silence; participation in a symposium in Tivoli
1973 Participation in the international sculpture symposium in St. Margarethen, Austria
1975 Participation in symposia in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, and Perchtoldsdorf near Vienna
1978  Initiator of and participant in an international sculpture symposium in the pedestrian zone in Saarbrücken-St. Johann, Germany

1985 Co-founder of the Steine an der Grenze international sculpture symposium, Merzig e.V.
1986Sculpture symposium near Merzig. Stone sculptures were placed along hiking trails on Germany's border with France. Schneider called the project "Steine an der Grenze" (stones on the border)
1991Guest of honour at Villa Massimo, Rome
1992 Travels in India; participation in symposia in Carlow, Ireland and Herrmannsdorf, Austria
1995   Participation in an international sculpture symposium in Bilsdorf, Luxembourg; participation in an international sculpture symposium in Longwy-Athus-Pétange (France, Belgium, Luxembourg)
1997  Awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany with Riband
1997/98Winner of the Sparda Bank Award for Outstanding Services to Art in the Public Domain
2000/2001Joint winner of the Sparda Bank Award for Outstanding Services to Art in the Public Domain with Werner Bauer and Bernhard Focht
2002The two Saarland projects "Steine an der Grenze" and "Straße der Skulpturen" were combined
