Gerhard Rühm

b. 12 February 1930 in Vienna (A); Austrian writer, composer and graphic artist

Studied piano and composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. After his studies he took private tuition from the twelve-tone composer Josef Matthias Hauer.
1972-1995Professor at the University of Fine Arts, Hamburg
1978-1982 President of the Grazer Autorenversammlung
1991 Awarded the Austrian State Prize for Literature
Co-founder of the Wiener Gruppe (with Friedrich Achleitner, Hans Carl Artmann, Konrad Bayer and Oswald Wiener), publisher of an anthology of the same name. His artistic work is inspired by August Stramm, Kurt Schwitters, Gertrude Stein, Carl Einstein and Paul Scheerbart among others

  He is a member of the Österreichischer Kunstsenat. Gerhard Rühm lives in Cologne and Vienna.
