Learned the miller's trade
1946-1950 Apprentice tombstone engraver in St. Gallen; school of arts and crafts
1950-1954  Worked in his own studio in Mühlehorn
1951-1953 Worked in a number of sculptors' studios, including Paul Speck's (1951/52)
19541st Swiss sculpture exhibition in Biel

 Although he travelled often and widely – to Copenhagen (1953), Rome, Florence, Milan, Venice (1954/55), Vienna (1959), Yugoslavia (1960), Mexico (1972, 1974), France (1998), Portugal – he always maintained close ties with the town and canton of Zürich.
